Remember when we used to post 40 blurry Facebook photos from a night out, write dramatic song lyrics as our statuses, and publicly announce that we were “so over it” to absolutely nobody? We were embarrassing. We were insufferable. We were free.
With the rise of fan culture back in full swing (thank you, Sarah J Maas, this generation’s Stephanie Meyer), we are free to worship, geek out, and support in our most cringiest ways yet! Proudly wearing the tote with Harry Styles’ face plastered on it on the subway? Done. Bringing up your favorite anime at an intimidate dinner party? Please. Encouraging your friends to line up at midnight for your favorite book author’s new release? Sign me up!
For too long we’ve swept aside any originality and allowed social media to dictate how hard and how ardently we were allowed to enjoy something. And God forbid we were passionate and looked like we cared about something deeply. Social suicide! We were led astray by a culture consumed with looking like nothing was ever bothering them, and nobody was important enough to care about. That ideology also applied to our personal lives, and in my opinion, led to the rise of casual dating with no actual relationships being formed. No party wanted to look like the one who cared more thereby leaving two sad people to wonder, “what if?”
Feeling free in your ability to care, to pursue, to vocalize- these attributes are what created revolutionaries back in the day. They moved the needle and ignited a spark. And saved you from spending the rest of your life wondering if the situation would’ve ended differently had you said the thing you most wanted to say; the sentence that haunts you in the back of the cab at 3 am as you listen to a wistful song.
The same heart felt logic applies to your professional life, too. If you don’t verbalize wanting a promotion due to your consistent, hard work at the job- how will your boss know to give it to you? If you continually stay in the same job you once said was a ‘temporary position’ without figuring out what ignites a fire in you, how will you live your life’s purpose?
Even celebrities used to be filled with a hunger that could not be satiated by anything other than the leading part they fought so hard for. Or the song they begged a producer to sing. Or the Oscar they campaigned for, shaking all the right hands, appearing at all the interviews, and attending the opening of an envelope.
Let this autumnal month inspire you to close out your year with a big, fiery, cringey YES! Whether you want the job, the partner, the trip, or anything else you’ve swallowed down lest you seem pathetic, let today be the day you decide that you are free from the shackles of nonchalance! At the end of the day, nobody ever lay on their deathbed wishing they’d been a little more mysterious on Instagram.

Song of the Week:

YOUR WEEKLY HOROSCOPE

ARIES
Not every inconvenience is a personal attack, but this week you’re willing to hear arguments. Your patience is running on 2%, and unfortunately, everyone has decided to test the battery.

TAURUS
The universe is encouraging you to step outside your comfort zone. You’ve respectfully declined and ordered takeout instead. Growth can wait until after your show.

GEMINI
You have approximately 47 thoughts happening simultaneously, and somehow, none of them are productive. This week, try keeping at least one opinion to yourself. Just to see what happens.

CANCER
Someone’s tone is going to ruin your entire Tuesday. Before drafting a seven-paragraph response, consider the possibility that they were simply tired. Unlikely, but possible.

LEO
You’re entering your mysterious era, which would be more convincing if you weren’t posting your every move on Instagram. The universe supports your need for attention. Just maybe not the hourly updates.

VIRGO
You’ve made a to-do list for your to-do list, and somehow you’re still behind. This week’s lesson is that being in control is an illusion. A deeply upsetting one, obviously.

LIBRA
A major decision is coming your way. Unfortunately, you’ve already asked six friends, consulted your birth chart, and made a pros-and-cons list with identical columns. Just flip a coin, babe.

SCORPIO
It’s Scorpio season, and your ability to hold a grudge has officially reached professional levels. Someone from 2019 is still on your mental watchlist. They probably don’t even know.

SAGITTARIUS
You’re craving adventure, freedom, and absolutely zero accountability. Unfortunately, your bank account is suggesting a more intimate journey between your couch and refrigerator.

CAPRICORN
You’ve been treating relaxation like another task to complete efficiently. This week, try doing absolutely nothing without feeling the need to monetize it. We know. Terrifying.

AQUARIUS
You’re feeling misunderstood again, which is impressive considering you’ve explained absolutely nothing to anyone. People cannot read your mind, no matter how intellectually superior you believe it is.

PISCES
You’ve developed an emotional attachment to a scenario that hasn’t happened, involving a person who hasn’t texted back. The stars recommend returning to reality, even if the plot is significantly worse.
